JESSICA "ANNIE" MCCORMICK, LMT

(she/they)

I completed the mastery massage therapy program at the Massage Institute of North Texas in September of 2024. I'm excited to help clients as they progress toward their goals of relaxation, pain management, improved function, and increased range of motion.

Before studying massage therapy I worked in elementary education for over a decade. Through this work I nurtured  a love of helping others, giving them tools and support needed for success. I also learned the importance of goal setting, partnership, and persistence -  skills I bring with me in my role as a massage therapist.

Touch is a basic human need that holds tremendous potential for improving well-being. When we feel safe all of our body's systems can work better, allowing us to release patterns of tension and learn new shapes physically, mentally, and emotionally.

My practice is inclusive of client diversity including race, ability, age, gender and sexual orientation. If you have any specific needs or questions you would like addressed before your session, please reach out through one of the ways offered below.

THREE ROSES

I chose this name for a few reasons. I was initially inspired by a tarot card from my favorite deck, The Outsider Tarot, that depicts three different colors of roses overlapping to create new colors. The card signifies the ways in which our gifts can come together and create something new, which is a guiding principle as I grow this practice.

In the realm of plants, rose is calming and comforting. Rose provides gentle benefits that range from cooling the skin to helping alleviate irritation and sadness. They have long symbolized love and care, and different colors of roses hold different meanings.

Ultimately I see the three roses representing myself, the client, and the space between us where the work happens. During each session there is a dynamic, responsive flow of energy and presence that contributes to the relaxing and therapeutic benefits of massage.

WHAT TO EXPECT

I am happy to work with clients who have already experienced the benefits of body work, but I am also excited to work with clients who have never received a massage before. In order to answer some general questions and relieve any potential anxiety, I want to share some details about what to expect when you book a massage with me.

My practice space is a small private room with low, warm lighting and soft ambient music. I generally do not use any kind of scent in the space. Essential oils are offered as part of relaxation treatments so there may be some light lingering scent on occasion. Please reach out if you have concerns about allergies.

Before your appointment you will receive an email that includes some digital intake paperwork you'll be able to complete before you arrive. The paperwork includes policies for you to review and some interview-style questions to help me understand the ways you use your body and your health history. This information makes me aware of any conditions or preferences that need to be taken into account during our time together. I would recommended having a light meal or snack about an hour or so before your appointment. Relaxation massage often activates the parasympathetic nervous system (also known as the "rest and digest" system) so if your stomach is empty you may be uncomfortable. Eating a large meal before your appointment can also result in being uncomfortable. Please be sure you've showered the day of your appointment.

If you book a relaxation appointment our goals will generally focus on making sure you feel comfortable and supported throughout the session so you can enjoy the fullest benefit possible. I will review the flow of the session with you, and confirm any areas you want me to avoid. We'll discuss table temperature and decide if you want any essential oils during your treatment. I will leave the room and allow you time to disrobe to your level of comfort. We'll start with some deep breaths and warm towels for your feet. During the session you will be covered with a sheet and blanket and only areas receiving treatment will be uncovered. I will check in with you about the pressure to make sure we are working within a comfortable range. I will work quietly unless you prefer to talk. About halfway through our time together I will instruct you how to carefully turn over on the table. At the end of the treatment I'll use hot towels for some extra relaxation and to remove oil from your hands and feet. I'll leave the room again and when you're ready you will meet me at the door. We'll briefly discuss how you feel and any areas of tension that I found. I'll offer you cold water to take with you and you'll have the opportunity to book another appointment with a discount.

If you book a therapeutic appointment our goals and work will be tailored specifically to your needs. To this end, we will spend a bit more time in consultation and evaluation before the hands on work begins. I will check on aspects of your posture and position as well as range of motion as needed. We'll discuss any pain you are experiencing and how different activities affect the area. Depending on the length of your session we will work on 1-3 areas. Where we are working will determine options for disrobing, always to your level of comfort. If you choose to disrobe I will leave the room until you are ready. You will be covered with a sheet and blanket and only the area receiving treatment will be uncovered. Therapeutic work can involve some amount of pain but it should always be tolerable. I will check in with you often to make sure this is the case. It is extremely important that you let me know what sensations you are feeling throughout the session so I can make necessary adjustments to pressure, location, and technique. Throughout treatment I will use hot towels as necessary. At the end of the treatment I'll leave the room and you will meet me at the door when you're ready. We'll discuss how you feel and any findings from the work. I'll demonstrate a few specific stretches you can do at home to support our work. I'll offer you cold water to take with you and you'll have the opportunity to book another appointment with a discount.
